We
welcome independent teachers of any instrument.
Our members reside in Durham, Wake, and Orange
Counties. One member even lives in Florida!
DMTA is affiliated with the North Carolina Music Teachers Association
and the Music Teachers National Association. We are a non-profit organization
with 501(c)(3) status.
How
To Join
Joining the Durham Music Teachers Association is easy. When you fill
out your New Member Application for MTNA, simply write “Durham,
NC” and include $20 for local dues.
If
you are transferring local membership, send an
application to MTNA with local fees.

Referral Service
For our new teachers, or those interested in rounding out their studio,
we offer a teacher referral service. Interested students may visit
our website or contact our Membership chair so you can save on advertising
costs.
Harpsichord & Lending
Library
DMTA maintains a seven foot single manual harpsichord available for
workshops or performance. We also have an extensive multi-instrument
music library!

Recital
This voluntary event is a chance for you to perform with other area
teachers.

Opportunities
Performance
Festival
On the 3rd Saturday in May, we host our own Performance Festival. Students
of all instruments (including ensembles, duets, and compositions) play
for com-ments, ratings, and prizes. A Winners Recital takes place the
following day.
Student
recitals
Student recitals are held at the Durham Arts Council, the 3rd Sunday
of the month. A great performance oppor-tunity for all levels & instruments!
Loren
Withers Competition
This piano competition, named after one of our founding members, is
for students age 12-14. Students receive monetary awards.
Music
History B
Finally, a fun way to incorporate music history into your studio! Questions
are made available to each studio, and the best from each teacher compete
for prizes in the Spring.
